EditFor.me offers writing, editing, and ghostwriting services. The book cover you'll be working on is a personal project of mine. "Don’t Fear the Reaper: Why Every Author Needs an Editor" is a 122-page nonfiction book aimed at first-time authors. I’m requesting a Kindle cover and a print cover.
What's your vision?
DIMENSIONS Kindle Cover Dimensions: 2820px by 4500px, 72 dpi, TIFF Print Cover Dimensions: I’ve attached the template. COVER COPY AND IMAGERY The cover should include the title, Don’t Fear the Reaper: Why Every Author Needs an Editor, and my name, Blake Atwood. On the whole, I’m requesting a simple, modern cover. I’m fairly open to ideas, but with a few caveats: I’m not opposed to having a Grim Reaper be part of the cover, but I don’t want that to be the focus. I also don’t want the cover to be horror-themed or dark in any way (no skulls, no blood, no gore, no Halloween, etc.). The title is a light-hearted joke about editors who slice and dice writers’ words. I envision the front cover colors to be mostly stark red on white with black text, like what you would see if an editor was correcting a typewritten page with a red pen. Images could include a red pen, red editing marks or corrected words, someone typing at a computer, or some brilliant and captivating image that says writer or editor. Don't use a typewriter. In my opinion, it's an overdone motif for writers' books. Also, bonus points if you can somehow subtly incorporate a cowbell. (See the public feedback if that doesn't make sense to you). BACK COVER COPY (for the print version) You’ve written a book, so now what? You may be asking yourself: • Should I hire an editor? • What kind of editor do I need? • How much will professional editing cost? • Where can I find an editor? • What will an editor expect from me? • What can I expect from an editor? Don’t Fear the Reaper: Why Every Author Needs an Editor answers these questions and more, while also offering advice on self-editing, how to best prepare your book for an editor, how to make an editor not like you so much, and why patience is key in writing and publishing. Bonus chapters include “How to Defeat Every Writer’s Nightmare” and “20 Must-Read Books on Writing and Publishing.” As menacing as editors may appear, you have no need to fear them. They may slice and dice your words and ideas, but they’re on your side. Don’t Fear the Reaper will help you make the most of your writer/editor relationship. BACK COVER IMAGERY Whatever ties in best with the front cover, plus the addition of: • my publishing imprint logo. I do not have a hi-res version of this logo. It can be recreated using the main font of your design so long as it follows the layout of the attached image. • author photo, attached, with this bio next to it: Blake Atwood is an editor, author, and ghostwriter with EditFor.me. SPINE COPY AND IMAGERY • Don't Fear the Reaper: Why Every Author Needs an Editor • Blake Atwood • Publishing imprint logo (if possible)
I’m a first-time 99d user, but I’m also a full-time author and editor in the market for a talented designer with whom I could work with on a consistent basis. I will be glad to answer any questions during this process and look forward to seeing everyone’s submissions.
