Subtitle: Seven Ways to Practice Fiction Techniques. Genre: writer's guides Target audience: fiction authors at all levels of their craft Description: This book teaches authors how to improve fundamental fiction writing skills through keeping a personal journal. It also contains excerpts from my personal journal as illustration, which together tell an inspirational true story.
What's your vision?
I need both an ebook cover (approx. 1,640 x 2,500) and a print book cover (exactly 5.25" x 8", approximately 200 pages). Title: Journaling to Become a Better Writer Subtitle: Seven Ways to Practice Fiction Techniques The author's name should be "Danielle Lincoln Hanna." I would like the cover to elicit the nostalgia of journaling - particularly of hand-written journals - but I also want it to clearly be a non-fiction cover. The first of my attached images is the current cover. I took a poll, and common consensus was that it was close but not quite. It was lacking some special something that would make it stand out. The other two covers appeal to me on two different levels: The first clearly evokes journaling nostalgia; the second is a solid non-fiction guide for writers. I'd like something in between. If you think you've got a great idea that's nothing like what I've described, feel free to surprise me.
The blurb: You’ve heard it said, “Good writers keep journals.” But are you exploiting everything your journal has to offer? Relieved of the burden of creating a story, you can focus on simply telling it well. Learn how to sketch from life models through seven techniques you can practice in your journal and apply directly to fiction: Recognizing a Story Worth Telling Using Basic Story Structure Getting in Touch with Your Emotions Describing Your World Capturing Characters Finding Your Purpose This is not your average book on the craft of writing. Hanna bares pages from her own journal to illustrate her techniques. These same excerpts share the story of the most traumatic plot twist of her life: the stripping away of her family and her search for someone to finally call “Daddy” – a quest which almost claimed her life. Part writing how-to book, part memoir, part self-discovery guide, this volume will show you what the everyday events of your life have to do with great fiction. Your life, after all, is a story.
