Entertainment & The Arts
My books series' target audience ranges from young adult into adulthood as the main characters are students in college. The series name is: The Iron Soul and with a total of twelve books expected. Books one through three are already complete and book four is in progress. It is a historical/paranormal fantasy series.
What's your vision?
I want a book cover designed that I can use on Amazon, Google, Apple , Kobo stores and on my website. For now the book will remain digital, but I plan on making published copies available within the next two years. The Iron Realm is the first story in a historical/paranormal fantasy series so I am looking for an atmospheric cover that is not too abstract as later covers will be of real objects such as swords and chalices. I want to invoke a sense of mystery, fantasy and ancient power. The series' target audience ranges from young adult into adulthood as the main characters are students in college. The series name is: The Iron Soul and with a total of twelve books expected. Books one through three are already complete and book four is in progress. The story uses Celtic mythology and the King Arthur myths and a third of this book takes place in the ancient British past in roughly 800 BCE. In this universe magic is generated due to two different worlds coming into contact with each and their physical laws not being fully compatible. Magic is a very fluid thing is the series with each mage channeling it differently based on their personality and talents. That said it does often appear as sparks in the air though each mage has a different color. The main part of the story follows the main characters in a fictional modern Oregon college town called Ravenslake. The town is fairly small roughly 30,000 and built around the college with a large lake. If you want to do a landscape the area is mountainous with forests. This area will serve throughout the series as one of the main battle fields.
Elements I do want to see: A standing stone with a triskele carved in it. The Triskele is the symbol of the series as a whole. As for the Triskele shape the series is using a shorter spiral design so please don't use a very long spiral triskele. I prefer a low light setting such as nighttime or in a forest rather than bright light as most of the action of the story takes place at night. The narrative of the story is around the conflict between two worlds with humans on one side. Their color scheme tends towards earthly colors, iron gray and blue. Feel free to be creative within that color scheme. Their enemies have violet eyes so be more cautious with that color. Please avoid relying on stock images. I prefer covers that look more like they were painted and less computer generated. Covers I like usually have a lot of texture and details. For example I like: the cover of the Nights of Villjamur, the Mists of Avalon covers, the Wheel of Time Covers, Glen Cook's Chronicles of the Dread Empire books, covers for Brandon Sanderson and Tad Williams books. I like the feel of high fantasy. Elements I don’t want to see: The heroes. I haven’t told you much about the heroes because to be frank I don’t want to see them on the cover. The series has a lot of characters spread over two different time periods so I’m not looking for a main character cover. Potential Elements from the books: The villains of the series are the Sídhe, an old Irish variation on fairies. They are human sized, slim built with very pale skin, white hair, highly refined features, violet eyes and small horns out of their heads. Those that encounter the heroes wear golden armor. The secondary villains are their hounds which are silvery very slim hounds like greyhounds with upright ears. They are gray in color and have violet eyes like their handlers. Should you be interested in using the villains as part of the cover please keep them secondary with the standing stone as the focus. Also should you chose to use these elements be aware that the villains do not come out during the day.

Piere was wonderful to work with. His incredible illustrations skills were evident in his portfolio (which is why I wanted to work with him), but working on a personalised project was amazing. He took a jumbled bunch of ideas and inspiration, found the core of what I was hoping for, and put it together in such a gorgeous way. I wouldn't hesitate to work with Piere again, and highly recommend his skills to anyone in need of equisitely illustrated art.
Thank you so much!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
