What's your vision?
SLIGHTLY UPDATED AS WE APPROACH THE 1ST DEADLINE: Hi there - I am a successful screenwriter/producer in Los Angeles, and need a simple, classy, and incredibly eye-catching book cover for my first novel, a mystery/thriller called "The Naked Philosopher." Right now I'm mainly interested in seeing your take on the front cover, but for this job I will also need a spine and back cover. (Will provide details when I pick the designs I like best.) Here's the story in a nutshell: a famous Harvard philosopher vanishes and his estranged son, a young disgraced former LAPD detective, must uncover secrets in the arcane world of professional philosophy to find him. He enlists the help of a brilliant yet troubled Yale grad student who was having an affair with his father...and who the ex-cop now finds himself falling for. So the themes of the story are: danger, forbidden romance and being stripped bare of one's deepest held beliefs - hence the title. As far as the cover art goes, keep it simple! And no tawdry sex covers! Try going for a classier image for "naked" that doesn't just show skin. Something emotionally riveting. Less is more. Abstract rather than literal. Also, I hate crowded book covers that try to cram the whole story onto the jacket. I love covers that are profound in their simplicity as well as mysterious - the kind that gets under the skin and makes you have to buy the book to find out what it's about. Also, very important - the cover needs to work as a thumbnail image (e.g., for readers who are browsing titles on a Kindle.) I know, I know...not an easy task! That's why I need your brilliance! Remember, keep it simple! Smart. Mysterious. Sensual rather than sexual. Be wildly creative! I am in awe of artists who do what you do. So thank you in advance for all your hard work! Paul
The front cover should feature the following 4 elements: 1) title: THE NAKED PHILOSOPHER 2) author: PAUL MARGOLIS 3) the words "a novel" in smaller, elegant, lower-case font 4) the following review line at top or bottom of the cover: "Smart, witty and tough." - DON WINSLOW, New York Times bestselling author of Savages and The Cartel

Great work and fast. Day 1 of the contest and never made it to another day. I knew from the first minute I saw the design it was the one. Great attention to detail and very helpful.
