We are publishing The Fine Art of Deception, an entertaining, engaging paranormal mystery romance book targeted to women readers ages 21-90+
What's your vision?
The Fine Art of Deception is a Paranormal Romance Mystery and I'm looking for a book cover to reflect dark mystery, intrigue, sexiness, and the pursuit of power. I want the cover to be our best marketing piece, to pull the reader in and make them want to read the book. I'll ultimately need an ebook and a print cover. The print size will most likely be 7.81 x 5.6. Author name will be under the pen name Alyssa Richards. As an example, I like this cover : Cover of City of Lost Souls (Mortal Instruments) Book Five http://www.amazon.com/City-Lost-Souls-Mortal-Instruments-ebook/dp/B005O315ZW/ref which shows a couple in embrace at the top and a darkened cityscape at the bottom. A cover that shows a similar type of layout, with a couple in a heated embrace, with a dark and mysterious NYC cityscape at the bottom would be great. I think I’d rather not show the faces or the hair color of the couple. Though if some long, blonde hair is shown from the woman, that would be okay. Her long, blonde hair and pale skin is mentioned in the book. The male is also Caucasian. Keep in mind that City of Lost Souls (the example above) is written for a young adult audience. So the virtual models used on that cover would be a little young for my book, which will be read by mostly adult women. Still, the models should be idealistically young and sexy. The two main characters in the book are in their early 30s. There is a theme of past lives, past loves reconnecting and past life memories resurrecting throughout the book. There is the theme that love never dies, but also that enemies might not either, so mystery, intrigue and danger is important to represent. Some wispy lines or smoky lines weaving around the characters might be interesting to imply a connection throughout time. You may have other ideas as to how to represent that connection through time. As another example, this cover also has a nice cityscape at the bottom: http://www.amazon.com/City-Bones-Illustrated-Instruments-ebook/dp/B00BAWEGK2/ref Though I'm not 100% certain that this example would work, it's an alternative idea where the cityscape or elements of it are behind the characters. In terms of imagery, fine art is a central and fundamental theme throughout the book, The Isabella Gardener Museum in Boston is important, more specifically the pieces stolen from it 1990. (Vermeer, Degas, Renoir, Rembrandt, et al) http://www.amazon.com/Clockwork-Princess-infernal-Devices-ebook/dp/B0088OTY20/ref There is also an angry ghost that is present throughout the book as well. Some ghostly image in the background of a young (20s-ish) brown hair, bangs swept to the side guy might be interesting. He needs to look menacing.
Here is the back cover copy: Addie wants to be like everyone else, the problem is she isn’t. Addison Montgomery was born with a very special gift, the kind most people would kill for. Addie can see things. In fact, she can see whatever she wants to see. All she has to do is give an item a light touch and the story comes pouring forth. The downside? She also sees things she doesn’t want to see - like vicious ghosts, and people’s hidden thoughts and feelings - their darkest secrets. Seeing is not a trait she’s proud of. In fact she wishes she was never born with it. It’s hard to blame her. When Addie sees - she sees too much. The last time someone discovered just how deeply she could see, her much-cherished career and relationship with her fiance’ ended in total devastation. People don’t like you when you see their secrets. So now she’s sought out a new job and new friends - and she’s handling her gifts differently. She’s going to fix the problem. Do something she’s always wanted to do: Be like everyone else. Pretend to be normal. And not see. There’s just one problem with that plan. Once you see, you can’t not see. Addie finds herself at The Albrecht Firm working for Otto, an old friend of her grandfather’s. The job is a welcome reprieve. Otto is a good man and runs a solid business, or is he? Addie’s visions may be trying to warn her otherwise. Soon she finds herself caught up in the glamorous world of fine art as well as the fine art of deception. Enter Blake Greenwood. Handsome, rich, and dangerous. Addie can’t help but feel drawn to this man though she isn’t sure she should trust him. Soon she realizes he may be the only one she can trust. But Blake has a secret, one that could kill them both. As Addie begins to uncover it, she falls prey to the sexual electricity that sparks between them. When Addie uncovers a huge forgery ring, some deep, dark family secrets, and an angry ghost who has set his evil sights on her, she realizes she’s in way over her head. And when she figures out she been conned into being a part of the country’s largest art heist, she realizes she’s in a fight for her life.
