Katalin was fantastic to work with. Her style is really unique and she has great intuition for how a design should look. She also implemented everything i suggested in short time. And her handwrited title for my book was the icing on the cake.
This was the first time i used 99designs and i am really happy that it was with Katalin.
Awesome! Will use him again. Work is high quality
How langerandreas started their book cover journey
Der dunkle Lord vom Kinderhort
Andreas Langer works as a journalist and ad writer for a local German newspaper. Together with his wife and his three kids he lives in a small town in Bavaria. And his kids may very well be the reason why he began writing children's books.
A new kid in after-school care club disturbs the daily routine of Lukas and his friends. At first he makes pretty harmless jokes of Lukas and his friends, but then he more and more bullies them: He evolves into the Dark Lord of after-school care club. Lukas and his friends try to get rid of him with unconventional methods...
I would say "Der dunkle Lord vom Kinderhort" (translated something like "The dark lord of after-school care club") is a pretty funny book. It's about friendship, team spirit and bullying - but it deals with the latter in a light-hearted way.
It ist written for children in elemantary school/primary school, mainly children from age 8 to 10.

It will be printed and distributed by Books on Demand, www.bod.de
What colors do you want to see in your design?
I am looking for an illustrator who likes to work on a cover for a children's book. The cover should contain only illustrations, no photos and it should make clear that this is not a dead-serious book, but instead a pretty funny and also enthralling read.
The cover should contain the main antagonist, but he should have no visible facial features, so i am thinking of him in back light, throwing a shadow through a door of the after-school care club - pretty much like the attached picture of the shadow man. But my antagonist is not a muscular guy, he is more like Kylo Ren. And of course he doesn't carry an axe. Instead he should hold a toilet brush in one of his hands, which should be clearly visible. I think of the dark lord as the central element of the cover. I guess he should have no real colour and only be illustrated in black, like a shadow in back light.
The rest of the cover however should be pretty colourful. There should appear at least two, maybe maybe even four guys, who are the protagonists of my book. They are ten years old by the way. The main character is a pretty random guy with no defined look, he has brown hair though. Then there should be a girl with a red-brown pigtail, who must look a little bit cheeky. Both should not look afraid of the dark lord, rather annoyed by him. These two have to be on the cover. If your design looks better with four guys, then you can also include a rather small boy with black curls and glasses and a pretty big, athletic boy with blond hair.
If i was able to design, i would probably arrange the nice guys at the bottom and the left and right ends of the cover - but i leave this one up to you.
The dimensions of the cover can be seen in one of the attachments. I also attach two covers of German children's books, whose style i like and which would also fit the tone of my book.
What to avoid
Pleace include no unaltered photos, the characters and the background should be drawn.
