Book cover for: M - in the Demon Realm - Book 1 M is the hero. She is a hot young Asian woman, living in present day NYC, who is the last in a line of Chinese Demon Killers and Light Bringers. Her weapon is a 20ft long sword made of razor segments. She lashes it like a whip. She wears a maroon crop top and simple stone pendant on a leather strand that glows red when demons are close. She has a slashing scar on her right cheek from ear to chin, similar scar on her right arm and right side of her rib cage from her first run in with a Wendigo's claws. She was born close Hell Gates and one is opening under the CIty. She must overcome the local demons, Native American Wendigos - (7-8 foot tall skinless creatures whose rear legs resemble horse legs, arms that end in long claws and heads that look like elongated sheep skulls with fangs. Cold vapor is always coming off them as if they just stepped from the freezer. They move so fast, it is a blur. They are thin for all their great size. They are the devolved souls of native Americans that became cannibals and now they have no stomachs and feel only horrible hunger. She must also fight the Yoaguai, Chinese Warrior Demons - they are so dark they appear almost as silihouttes in traditional armor. They have reptilian claws and have vaguely fox or snake-like aspects while obviously being devolved human Chinese soldiers. They wield sickle blades swung from chains, traditional long and short swords et al. She must also fight the sorcerer who is opening the Hell Gate to release hell on earth. He is Asian, muscular and handsome- he wears the "keys" to the hell gate on his arms. The keys are wire and rag arm wraps. The wires penetrate his flesh and dots of blood and bruises are visible when he stands before the Hell Gate. M finds an ally during the battle. It is a ferocious black Hell Hound the size of bull, with 6 inch fangs. The giant beast was originally a CHow trained to bite the throats out of the fallen enemies of the emperor's army, but evolved to this in hell. I see the cover as heroic - eg. I like the rabid and seething energy of Frazetta and some of Frank Miller's color work on Batman. That's the feeling. My dream is that kind of energy in the artist own unique style.
I know none of us have time but I included the manuscript if anyone wants to look. Quickie Synopsis: M's mother and twin sister were killed by Chinese Warrior Demons in Beijing. She was smuggled out of China and adopted by an American couple who own a coffee shop in Pennsylvania. She graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC and is now a waitress living with an FIT girlfriend while she tries to get a break as a womens wear designer. Her boyfriend and then roommate are killed by wendigos. She is found by two Chinese masters who inform her of her destiny and that she must fight or die. Her attempt to kill herslef by drowning in the Hudson River results in a memory of her ancestors that were warrior priestess twins in China. She ends up stealing her legacy weapon, the razor sword from a display at the Met. She battles her way past wendigos, yaoguai and hellhounds to the hell gate but is too late. She has to enter the gate to hell and fight the sorcerer while his demon legions watch. She kills him and closes the hell gate but doesn't die. The Demon Killers usually do. She thinks it's over and it's not.
