Entertainment & The Arts
I am a first time author, publishing my first book.
What's your vision?
A cover for my sci-fi/fantasy novel - The Betrayal of Ka (see Book Blurb Below) I want a book cover to make the reader feel a deep emotional tension. The main character of the book is going to betray his own people, and side with the people of earth. However, he betrays himself first, and it costs a child its life. Along his journey, he is going to be expected to kill again. He is going to struggle with what he is expected to do and what he believes is the right thing to do. I would love for someone to look at the cover and know that this book has drama, mystery, suspense, along with the sci-fi. As my first book, it is very important that the cover grabs potential readers and pulls them in. FRONT For the front of the book, I need the title, The Betrayal of Ka, and my name, Shea R. Oliver. I am a little torn as to whether or not to include that this is part of a series. If you think it is appropriate, the series is The Transprophetics, and this is book one. BACK On the back of the book I need, the following 1. The Book Blurb As the spaceship secretly lands on Earth, Ka’s mission is clear: Find and kill Transprophetics. His shipmates think of him as a killer. On his home planet of Koranth, he is considered a murderer. Haunted in his dreams by the boy whose life he stole, Ka struggles to define who he really is. A girl in a temple in Thailand. A boy kidnapped in Mexico. Both can do the impossible. Both can move objects with their minds. These two Transprophetics pose grave risks to the Donovackia Corporation as it plans its invasion of Earth. With a blade in his hand, Ka’s decision to kill, or not, will reverberate across the galaxy. 2. Space for the ISBN and barcode. 3. Colorado Sky Media, LLC logo SPINE I would like the spine of the book to be distinctive as well, and to be eye-catching. In terms of design, I am VERY open to ideas. I think that I like the colors to be a bit on the darker side, but not too dark. I am totally open to fonts. Here are a few covers that I do like. http://www.amazon.com/Atlantis-Gene-Thriller-Origin-Mystery-ebook/dp/B00C2WDD5I/ http://www.amazon.com/Name-Wind-Kingkiller-Chronicles-Day/dp/0756405890/ http://www.amazon.com/Grace-Kings-Dandelion-Dynasty/dp/178497322X/ http://www.amazon.com/City-Stairs-The-Divine-Cities/dp/080413717X/ http://www.amazon.com/Vagrant-Peter-Newman/dp/0007593074/ http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Forest-Cixin-Liu-ebook/dp/B00R13OYU6/ http://www.amazon.com/Dragonbane-Dark-Hunter-Novels-Book-19-ebook/dp/B00O0F3M5Q/ http://www.amazon.com/Angelfall-Penryn-End-Days-Book-ebook/dp/B008ELHBAO/ ----- One note: If you want to use a single person (who could be assumed to be Ka) in the design, the color of his skin must not be revealed.
The book will be published on Amazon Kindle, CreateSpace and Ingram Spark, initially. I would really appreciate a design that works well in both print and digital media. It would be great if the design also had great visual impact as a thumbnail as well. I am planning to use a 3:2 ratio, probably 6x9 for print. I am very open to suggestions and input. Please ask any questions that you have! A Couple of Notes: 1. The book leans a bit more scifi than fantasy 2. Objects that might work well within the design. - Knife, like a commando or military style knofe - An arrow - A futuristic city - Planets - A child's dead body - A single mountain in the distance - A single spacecraft - A futuristic prison
