What's your vision?
Need a cover for a thriller novel. Title: Maternal Instincts. Author: Kim Antieau. Want book to look like a mainstream thriller, but be distinctive. Story takes place in a small Pacific Northwest town and also in Portland, Oregon. Name and title should be large on the front cover, in the style of thrillers. This is the first book in a series. Want to brand book to series and be able to easily carry branding to next book. Be creative about imagery, but please no WIJ (Woman In Jeopardy) imagery or sexy woman imagery. The heroine is a tough ex-cop trying to help a ten-year-old girl evade kidnappers. Iconic images from the novel: Bigfoot footprint, Pacific Northwest forest, fruit leathers made in the shape of Bigfoot's footprint, girl and woman on the run, drones, Beauty Falls (the legendary and possibly mythical falls the town is named after but no one knows where they are.) The next book will take place in the town of Beauty Falls. I have a Dreamstime account and would prefer any stock imagery to come from that site. Also, please keep to a budget of no more than $30 total for all stock images for this project. Want something iconic, elegant, and clean. Book will be produced through CreateSpace. I like wraparound, but that's not crucial. Here are some covers in this genre we like: Michael Berrier's Company Thieves and Berrier's Cargo. That's a great design and example of branding we like. Other designs we like are Greig Beck's Black Mount, Bill Larkin's Detective Lesson, Mario Puzo's The Godfather, and Scott Turow's Presumed Innocent.
See attached template (in pdf and png form) for dimensions and placement of copy and images. I have also attached copy I want on the front cover, spine, and back cover. Of course everything needs to look good at 300 dpi. I would like to be able to open and edit the final design with InDesign.
