What's your vision?
Hello! I'm looking for a Kindle & Createspace (6" x 9" format) cover for my Dystopian/Young Adult novella, "Against Her Gentle Sword: Fighting for Love and Freedom in a Woman's World". The blurb should appear on the back of the Createspace cover: << On an island ruled by women, young men must duel each other with stun swords to impress young ladies and attract romantic interest. Dario, a boy yearning for freedom and equality, is selected to duel in front of the girl he loves. He has no desire to fight his friends, and little chance of winning. Will he refuse to duel, suffering punishment and humiliation? Or will he ruin his chances of winning her heart through an embarrassing defeat? His problems get more complicated when a former ally hijacks his revolutionary plans, turning them into an evil power grab. Real, deadly fighting breaks out on the island for the first time. >> This is my current idea for the front cover: show two young men dueling with swords (keep in mind they're not steel swords, but rather stun/electric swords). The fighting stance should be one-handed, as these are fairly light, one-handed weapons. The main hero is smaller built, attractive, good guy. The opponent is larger than him, also attractive, and of clearly questionable character. The match takes place in a futuristic arena where many women are watching (not necessary to depict). The main heroine (and possibly her best friend) must be depicted as watching the fight. She is very attractive, in a very gentle, classy, feminine kind of way, and fair-haired--actress Keri Lynn Pratt would be a good example. On the back cover: I'm thinking of having the main heroine hold a sword, as at the end of the book she ends up dueling the main hero. The above is my current vision for the cover, but I'm also open to alternative ideas (especially from people who have read the entire novella). I will gladly answer any questions from designers and provide feedback all along the way (inasmuch as the rules of the contest permit). The setting is on a remote tropical island, but that detail doesn't necessarily have to be very obvious on the cover (open to the designer's preference/interpretation). I strongly recommend that any potential designers read the novella to get a good understanding of the work. I believe it's a pretty innovative read, and somewhat hard to categorize.
