I am one of several authors in Stealth Books who writes male escape fiction, mainly military.
What's your vision?
Book cover for a novel, Rogue Avenger, written by John R. Monteith, published by Stealth Books. Synopsis: For fans of Tom Clancy, Joe Buff, and Michael DiMercurio Book 1 of the Rogue Submarine Series: THEY STOLE HIS FUTURE. HE STOLE THEIR SUBMARINE. The accident changed everything… One moment, Lieutenant Jake Slate was going about his duties aboard the ballistic missile submarine, USS Colorado. The next second, he was sprawled on the deck plates in a spreading puddle of blood and hydraulic fluid. But it wasn’t the injury that ruined his life and doomed his military career. It was the rescue effort. Now he’s being thrown to the wolves to cover up the misdeeds of a superior officer, and Jake doesn’t care for the role of sacrificial lamb. Blinded by rage and unsure of his future, he finds himself at the center of a treacherous plot to hijack the Colorado and sell her nuclear warheads to a foreign power. Jake no longer knows who he can trust. He doesn’t know what the future holds. He really only knows one thing. He will have his revenge. http://www.amazon.com/Rogue-Avenger-John-R-Monteith/dp/0985044322/ref=la_B0080T78JO_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1399428699&sr=1-1
The book is already in print with a makeshift cover. There are also 3 other books in the series with a 4th being published. So I'm looking for someone who can craft a reusable theme for the cover of all my submarine adventure books (Rogue Avenger, Rogue Betrayer, Rogue Crusader, Rogue Defender, Rogue Enforcer). Here's my author page on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/John-R.-Monteith/e/B0080T78JO For finalists... Let’s look at this book as the first of a series. The first four books are already in publication, the fifth is drafted and in prepublication, and I’m working on the sixth. These books need covers with a recognizable theme linking them. The theme of the first book must be repeatable for each book in the series. After reviewing initial designs, I realized that it would be difficult to use a cover that includes a human figure. In the first book, the hero is a naval officer who turns into a renegade. But in future books, he’s just a renegade who dresses nice. He wears no recognizable uniform, and he avoids gunplay. So how would you portray him on a cover in the subsequent books? I don’t think it can be done. There are other interesting characters that could be portrayed on the cover of each successive book, but they would probably be meaningless to people shopping for books. I believe the only solution is to remove people from the cover art. That leaves the submarine as the focal point and as the only differentiator between each book other than colors. I’d like each cover to have its specific submarine. It’s not necessary to show all concepts for all covers now, but the winning cover for Rogue Avenger must be customizable for the specific submarine involved in each future book. For example, Rogue Avenger is an American Trident submarine. Rogue Betrayer is a Pakistani Agosta. Rogue Crusader is an Israeli Dolphin. Rogue Defender is a North Korean Romeo. Rogue Enforcer (not yet in print) is an Argentine Type 1700. The sixth book is a Malaysian Scorpène. Note that the existing covers http://www.amazon.com/John-R.-Monteith/e/B0080T78JO follow this pattern except for Rogue Defender, which shows a Scorpène because I couldn’t find a picture of a Romeo, and the Scorpène was vital in the story. But I’d prefer the Romeo for Rogue Defender. Finding unlicensed high-resolution pictures of these submarines may be tough, but I’m interested in what you designers can show. Please include a summary of the intellectual property rights to the images used in your designs.
