I am the author of six nautical mystery/thrillers. My most recent two books are thrillers published by Amazon’s Thomas & Mercer imprint. This project is for a book cover for a nautical mystery/suspense novel that is the first of a four book series. These books were originally published by Ballantine Books, but since I’ve got the rights back, I now self-publish them. I am looking to refresh the entire series of four books (they are currently for sale online on most e-bookstores) with new covers. I am running this contest to find a designer for the whole project. The target audience is adult readers from 16-100.
What's your vision?
I want a design for book covers for my novel Surface Tension. I am looking to create a branded “look” for the books in this series that will mesh with the covers for my new series of thrillers Circle of Bones and Dragon’s Triangle published by Thomas & Mercer. I will attach those two covers here for this contest. To be clear, the book Surface Tension is the first in a different series of mystery novels - not thrillers - but I want a sense of the Christine Kling brand to be apparent across all my books. Designers can see all my current book covers at http://christinekling.com/books/. I want the cover to communicate that this is a nautical, tropical Florida mystery. I am going for this redesign because the several of the current book covers are not tropical enough. I'm looking for a fresh new look for the series that will be recognizably the same brand as the Circle of Bones and Dragon's Triangle covers. Perhaps having my name in the same font in the same place on all the covers would communicate this? Or perhaps the colorful look of the covers? I'm not a designer, so I'm not sure how to get that branded look, but I know it when I see it. ABOUT THE BOOK SURFACE TENSION: Seychelle Sullivan is a beautiful young woman who runs a tugboat and salvage business in Fort Lauderdale on the New River. She receives a MayDay call from a 90-foot white megayacht in distress off Fort Lauderdale beach. When she arrives to tow the boat, she finds a dead girl in a bikini with a knife in her back. The search to find the girls’ killer leads her to glittering marinas, strip clubs, a backstreet porn studio, until finally Seychelle has a show down with a killer while diving on the wreck of an old freighter.

A gifted writer, Christine Kling has created characters that are richly three-dimensional and a story that is both moving and full of suspense.” —James W. Hall, Author of Blackwater Sound On a steamy Florida morning Seychelle Sullivan is answering a Mayday call launched from the five-million-dollar Broward yacht, the Top Ten. Racing her fiercest competitor for salvage rights, Seychelle has a personal stake in this rescue: Her former lover, Neal Garrett, is the yacht’s hired skipper. But being the first to reach Top Ten leads to a bloody payday. A beautiful woman has been stabbed to death onboard. And Garrett is nowhere to be found. While the police treat her as the prime suspect, Seychelle begins to unravel a tangled plot centered on a strip club where “all the girls are tens on top.” Seychelle is connecting human predators with innocent victims, and a mystery on land with a mystery buried deep beneath the sea. Now, to find out what really happened to Neal Garrett, Seychelle must retrace his last steps through two murders and a horrific crime wave, to a final confrontation beneath the surface of the sea with someone who may want to kill her . . . or be her salvation. <author photo attached>Christine Kling has spent more than thirty years messing about with boats, and she now writes nautical thrillers.
