Entertainment & The Arts
I write books which I sell through my publishing house, King & Market Press. The book will be sold both as a traditional book, through CreateSpace, and as an ebook through Amazon, Kobo, iTunes and other ebook sellers.
What's your vision?
Format Information: I need the cover, spine and back cover of my novel as a single image (for print publication through CreateSpace), as well as the cover alone as a separate image (for ebook publication at Amazon, Kobo, etc.). Both files need to be at least 300 DPI, in CMYK or RGB color, flattened to one layer, and sized at 100%, and centered both horizontally and vertically (these are the specs required by CreateSpace). When printed, the book will have a 6 x 9 trim size. The maximum for the cover size is 40MB. The font used in the text of the book is Century Schoolbook, but this does not need to be reflected in the cover font. The cover and back cover should have a 0.125" bleed on all four sides. The Spine: The book's spine needs to be 0.554" in width. The book's title, Certain Freedoms, needs to appear on the spine, with 0.0625" of space on either side (including the tops and bottoms of letters such as y, g, or d where the letter extends below the baseline or above the mean line of the font). I need the press's logo to appear, either vertically or horizontally, at the bottom of the book's spine. I have attached a copy of the logo. The Back Cover: Please keep the bottom right-hand corner relatively open for the placement of the book's barcode, which will be added by the printer. The back cover needs to have the following blurb appear, centered, in the middle of the cover (the first four words of the blurb -- "Russia, 1993. Certain Freedoms" -- need to appear in italics: Russia, 1993. Certain Freedoms is an unforgettable novel set against the upheaval of a nation at a turning point in history. Award-winning author R. R. Bell brings readers into the lives of Russians and expatriates from the West caught up in Russia’s fight to realize its new freedom after the fall of communism. Set during the weeks leading up to the siege of the nation’s parliament, the novel explores the power of the past to threaten our future. In this richly textured rendering of the period, Bell brilliantly links the lives of English teachers, a disillusioned communist, an icon painter and a woman struggling to translate the most important word of her generation. Freedom. The Cover: The cover should have a 0.125" bleed on all four sides. The cover 'in my head' centers on the close-up of a cracked and aged face from a Russian icon, preferably the face of the Madonna. Interposed on top of the face is a child's hand, reaching as though to touch the icon. The hand is small enough that it resembles a tear beneath the Madonna's eye. This novel explores the spiritualism of Russian icons, but it is not an overtly religious book. I would love the cover to capture the artistic power of the icons, which in itself conveys a profoundly spiritual sense of awe. Having said all of this, the cover 'in my head' is not necessarily the best cover for the book. I'm open to new ideas. The file that includes front cover, spine, and back cover should be centered vertically and horizontally and have the following dimensions: Width = 12.794" Height = 9.25"
The title of the novel is Certain Freedoms. Overview: The book is set in Russia during the 1993 Black October crisis, in which the country's elected representatives were locked in a power struggle with the president, Boris Yelstin. The representatives barricaded themselves in the parliament (known as the White House) until the military moved in. The Plot: The book falls under the literary fiction category, though it takes the reader into the besieged parliament as well as flashbacks to WWII. At the heart of the book is a love story that involves an American professor and a Russian translator. The novel's subplot involves an art restorer who repairs icons and the giant murals in an Orthodox church.
