I am the author of one published novel and am about to publish a second novel. This will be the cover for novel two. Target audience: women's contemporary fiction, literary fiction. The title of this book is "Ride Your Heart 'Til It Breaks"
What's your vision?
An ebook cover for Kindle, an ebook cover version for Nook, and a smaller version of the same image that can be uploaded to GoodReads. A Kindle Cover is 1600 by 2400 pixels. My published novel's Nook cover is 1333 by 2000. The GoodReads image for my published novel is 799 KB. I will also need a version of the ebook cover for the Create Space paperback. The paperback will be 8 inches high and 5.25 inches wide. The blurb for the back cover follows in the "other" box below. The book is not a genre romance novel. I do not want a cover that says "genre fiction" or "romance novel" to the reader. This story explores a complex relationship between two people from different worlds with deep-seated emotional issues that bring them together and drive them apart. The story also explores the meaning of infidelity and profound loss. I like plain fonts for the text, title, and author name. I am not a fan of fancy script. My published novel is Dance for A Dead Princess on Amazon.com if you want to take a look at that cover which was done here on 99 designs. I liked that design because it conveys the hero's sense of isolation and loss, a major theme of Dance. And I liked the melding of the piano keyboard with the hero's image because music is the hero's comfort in the torment of his lost love in Dance For A Dead Princess. I include this description of my published novel to give you an idea of the kinds of designs that attract me. I like clean simple designs that convey in images the themes of the novel. For example, Ride Your Heart is about passion, profound loss, and redemption. I have attached a few pictures that I have found. I think most of them are stock photos, but you'll have to check to be sure. My absolute favorite is the red chalk heart on the gray, cracked pavement. I could not find the origin of that photo, so I do not know if it can be used. There are some similar ones out there that are available if this one is not. The hero of Ride Your Heart is a Jazz trumpet player, so the image of a trumpet might work for the cover. Likewise the silhouette of a trumpet player might work. Finally, much of the book takes place in an imaginary jazz club in San Diego's not imaginary Seaport Village. I have attached a photo of Seaport Village at night as a possibility for a cover. I will say, again, though, that my favorite image is the red chalk heart on the cracked pavement.
The following is the blurb for the back cover of the paperback as of November 14, 2014 (note the change from the first backcover blurb I posted): On a cool October evening in 1994, attorney Karen Moon enters an enchanting little jazz club, in San Diego and unexpectedly falls hopelessly in love with the star attraction, trumpeter Stan Benedict. Although Stan is a world class flirt, who has every woman in the audience longing to go home with him, Karen hears a deeper truth in his music. Behind the performer’s confident, shallow mask is a vulnerable, lonely man longing to be loved. Addicted to Stan and his music, Karen risks her chance of partnership at Warrick , Thompson and secretly crosses ethical boundaries to save the club from destruction by her client, Waterfront Development. She and Stan begin a tumultuous affair that culminates in an unplanned pregnancy and a hasty marriage. But their relationship is increasingly threatened by the demands of Karen’s job as a highly paid securities lawyer and by the rising crescendo of Stan’s frequent infidelities. Through mounting heartbreak, Karen struggles to hold on to Stan until they are swept apart by a tide of personal and professional loss. Thirteen years later, Stan reappears in Karen’s life to tell her he never stopped loving her. Now a superior court judge and married to Warrick, Thompson partner Howard Morgan, Karen is faced with Howard’s threats to destroy her if she leaves her marriage to risk her heart with Stan once more. Ride Your Heart ‘Til It Breaks is an unforgettable, intricately woven tale of passion, loss, self-discovery, and redemption.
