Prologue: Overpopulation, poverty and a depletion of the earth's natural resources forced the world's governments to set aside petty disputes and ancient hatreds to work together for a solution. Incredibly, a habitable planet was discovered and scientists developed a new engine capable of travelling 10 light years instantaneously. However, to power the engine required the earth's supply of nuclear material. During construction of this vehicle, an accident caused an explosion so destructive it destroyed the moon. Asia, Africa, the Middle East and most of Europe are now gone. Debris from the destruction of the Moon formed a ring around the Earth. People struggled in the aftermath; more than half the world left uninhabitable. The destructive energy and resulting radioactive clouds created an earth more akin to a post apocalyptic nightmare. In the 15 years since the accident, displaced survivors have resettled in mega cities and have worked together to form a new government, the United Federation of Nations, formed of and controlled by mega corporations. It is a new era for humankind. Technology has evolved and cybernetics has increased human capability, biotech has enabled direct brain to cyber connectivity and magic has made its way into the modern world. What begins as a rash turns into a colored glowing woad of symbols and letters that flow across a carriers body and people afflicted with it begin to trigger magical abilities they don't understand or control. The color and symbols are unique to each person and dependent upon what magical abilities they exhibit. Simple words seem to trigger the magical abilities and everything from healing spells to great fireballs of destruction are released. Because of the unpredictability and the dangers magic users pose to the general public, the government has created the Federal Arcane Registry Enforcement Agency, commonly referred to as the Registry, to track down and detain anyone who develops these marks or exhibit magical abilities. Unknown to the Registry, a child is born with magical talent, a unique silver woad, and with apparant control over his abilities. Raised by a group of secretive Monks, they hire a team of mercenaries to transport the child to a monastery deep beyond the borders of civilization, into the heart of the quarantine zone. The monks believe the child may have the answers to controlling magic and could be the key to repairing the damage done to the world.
What's your vision?
I would like a book cover. Title: Hope Author: H.J. Garry Here is a link to the first 10 pages of my rough draft: https://www.jukepop.com/home/read/1475. I am also including the prologue, a sample of what I've been using as a book cover, and some artwork I've been using for inspiration for characters, and places in my story. This is a three part series. The first book will end with the boy Monk sacrificing himself in a machine that will utilize his abilities to restore the planet. An example of the machine can be found in the artwork I've included. It looks like it contains a huge ball of energy (file name "telikos_protocol___orb_chamber_by_phoenix_06-d4j2tz5". I would like the cover to include the main character, my inspiration for him is included in the artwork, of the boy wearing the red t-shirt and brown jacket (file name "Malcolm Outfit"). Malcolm has a German Sheppard as a companion and becomes the protector of the boy Monk. Keep in mind that Malcolm and the boy Monk both have runes that cover their skin. The Monks cover his entire body and Malcolm's cover his body but not his face, neck or hands. Malcolm's glow blue and the boys are silver. The runes are a mixture of alien letters, symbols and pictographs. I am purposely leaving the cover open to your creativity. It's a science fiction/fantasy novel for young adults. I would like to avoid looking like a cartoon. I'd like detail, something with action and I don't want a lot of empty space except to work in the title and author name. Don't hesitate to poke me for more information.
The artwork I submitted with the contest is what I use for inspiration for the story and helps me with description. I should have been clearer about that because I do not have copyrights over any of the artwork I submitted. I do apologize for not explaining that my original explanation. In addition, if you have not read more into the story I provided, Hope is the name of the monk child and will be essential to saving the earth from catastrophe and Malcolm is the main character. Keep in mind that the moon has been destroyed and now sits as debris in the outer atmosphere. I hope the helps with your designs.
