I am a new author hoping to break into the business of selling books.
What's your vision?
I would like the cover of my new book to be designed. It is called "The Artifact." It is meant to be when Lara Croft meets the apocalypse. A quick teaser of the project is as follows: Two-hundred years after the Great War devastated humanity, Forager Jael Lightbringer scours the treacherous upper-world for artifacts. The energy contained in these pieces of history are essential to power the solar generators keeping the underground city of Jyato thriving. During one of her expeditions to the upper-world Jael retrieves an unusual jade statue which houses a sinister spirit. Her mentor is killed while trying to harness the artifact’s energy, and a strange vision reveals that the statue is the cause of his death. She also learns that the spirit has plans to spread more destruction and death among her people. With no other options, Jael is forced to create an unlikely alliance in order to destroy the statue and save her home. I am open to suggestions, but the image I have in mind is Jael on the cover riding her white falcon. Jael is eighteen years old with a heart-shaped face and narrow nose. Her hair is cut in a bob just past her chin and slightly curly and blonde. Her eyes are emerald green, and she has faint freckles on her neck. She is about 5'7" with an athletic body. She is not super muscular, but she is well-toned from the type of life she lives as a forager. Jael’s foraging clothes are dark brown cotton pants that fit snugly, but not so tight as to restrict movement. She wears a dark green t-shirt underneath a dark brown leather jacket. Her boots cover her ankles and are the same type of leather as her jacket. She wears her shirt tucked into her belt with three gun holsters. Then guns are small. She also wears two nylon pouches that strap onto each of her thighs. They are so she has easy access to all of her supplies. She wears black leather gloves with a platinum band across the knuckles. The falcon's name is Althea, and she is Jael's companion. She has the look of a gyrfalcon, but she is much larger (obviously since Jael is riding on her). The difference between Althea is that she is all white, with only a few black specks along her wings. The artifact that the story is named after is a jade statue that fits in Jael's palm. It is a grinning satyr that is holding up a flute, but not playing. The world is post-apocalyptic, about 200 years since the last major cities were abandoned, so there is some decay. Most humans live under-ground to stay away from the dangerous creatures living on the surface, or underwater in the ocean. Thank you very much for taking the time to read through my request, and please let me know if you have any questions. If you need to contact me, the best way is at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will be more than happy to address anything. Thank you again, and I can’t wait to see all of your ideas! Edit: I realized in Jael's description I never mentioned the color of her hair, so I went ahead and edited that. I am also going to see if I can extend the design submisssion, but I won't have time to do that until I get off work this evening. Thank you to everyone that has entered so far!
Like I mentioned previously, feel free to contact me if you have any questions at email@example.com. I am definately okay with any creative thinking, but please do not stray too far from the core descriptions.
