I want a book cover designed for my mainstream novel One Thousand Days in the Sun. My name is Frank Okolo, which is also my nom de plume. My novel will be available in paperback and as an eBook. The paperback dimensions are 5.25" x 8". The paperback version is 442 pages after design. Perhaps the color yellow, gold, orange, all evocative of the sun, should feature prominently in a cover that will grab readers and not let go? Perhaps not. I leave it to the designer’s imagination.
The following is the text for the back cover:
ONE THOUSAND DAYS IN THE SUN
Young Thabo sleeps over in the Chief’s house on an errand for his father. Overnight he gropes the Chief’s extraordinarily beautiful daughter Nefrika. Obsessed with her, he returns to his father’s house convinced that Nefrika is his destiny.
Five years later, they meet again as young adults. Thabo’s old passions resurface, except that this time Nefrika is on the market at the Wives Exchange and able men must fight other suitors to claim their desired bride. Thabo is considered weak by his tribesmen, and must now muster enough courage to fight an insanely fearsome suitor named Manpower who killed his opponent in a previous wiving fight. Thabo rejects the notion of renouncing Nefrika to avoid Manpower’s legendary ruthlessness. Determined to win a hymen he thinks rightfully belongs to him, Thabo must learn the laws of manhood and the forbidden secrets of the women’s Unclean Hut.
The barcode will be placed at the bottom-right corner of the back cover. It is 2" wide and 1.2" tall. The bottom of the barcode is located 1/4" up from the bottom trim line of the cover and 1/4" to the left of the spine. That area should not have any important text or images.
The title should go near the top of the front cover and my name closer to the bottom.
FYI: Nefrika should be a lithe young woman with African features and a palpable femininity. Think Tiwa Savage, or Kelly Rowland. The reader must sense Nefrika’s incredibly feminine, almost feral pull just from the image. I leave it to your imagination how you bring about that effect. The male protagonist Thabo need not be imaged, although his shadow, virtual or montage, may hover in the background.
