Expansive Intimacy: How "Tough Guys" Defeat Burnout
I am an executive/life coach, comedian, Dad, and burnout survivor. I enjoy creating fun in the world, while also dealing with deep subjects, especially those that involve interpersonal relationships. I coined the term "expansive intimacy" to describe a new way for men to approach the world, one that centers on embracing connection with others rather than isolating themselves with their struggles.
Expansive Intimacy: How Tough Guys Defeat Burnout is a book that helps men resolve their socialized beliefs that have them follow outdated masculine archetypes, oftentimes straight into burnout, and instead embrace the wide range of deeply connected relationships that makes life sweet. This is BOTH a personal development book AND a leadership development book. Designs must speak to both business and personal - life isn't one or the other, it is one life with many elements. SUPER IMPORTANT: This book is not about *romantic intimacy*. Designs that depict romantic connection will not represent the meaning of this book. Rather, it is about expanding intimacy beyond the romantic/sexual realm, and bringing a sense of vulnerable intimacy into all types of relationships.
Men in the US (and other Western cultures), aged 30-55, middle- to upper-class, work in corporate leadership (ex: CEO, Founder, other executive), have children, dealing with stress/burnout, want more enjoyment and deeper relationships in their lives.
Book cover type
This is a highly personal book aimed at a business audience. I want the cover to have a personal feel to it, while also representing the gravity of a big challenge that I'm throwing at men to embrace intimate connections. I need a balance of hard/soft, serious/playful, and individual/collective. There are lots of paradoxes in this book! If it's possible to depict a central figure with strong, warm emotional connections to other people (including family, friends, AND colleagues), that's something that could capture the essence of my book's thesis. It could also be cool to see a design with concentric circles of other people surrounding that central figure, with the colors going from warmer to colder as you get further away from the central figure, who would be in the warmest color of all. I would like there to be the sense of real people on the book, though I'm entirely open to them being illustrations. In other words, I don't need photos of actual people, just illustrations that have some life to them. I'd also like the typography on the main title to be more evocative. For example, can you make "Expansive" look more expansive and "Intimacy" look more intimate? I like these colors, but am open to other suggestions that someone with a better eye for design than me has: #134da9, #dfcd40, #ecb330, white, black.
What to avoid
Generic looking "human network" or "cookie cutter people" imagery. (That is what my publisher's design team provided and I hate it.) I have attached one of the files that my publisher provided. Please do not create anything like this, other than possibly using the same color scheme. I do not want my picture on the cover of the book.

I am very happy and satisfied with my book cover design. I have no words to show my gratitude towards Donna. She is an amazing designer, from her communication skills, attention to little details, and creativity to her quick response to any question was amazing. She would go out of the way and try her level best to satisfy you. She will provide you with multiple concepts and each one is so attention-grabbing that it will stop you and make you think about which one to choose from.
I wish her the best of luck in future and would love her to work on the 1:1 project for me in near future.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
