Book cover to be used for e-book and hard-copy version through Create Space. Title of book is The Art of Forgetting (Author: Peter Palmieri)
This is a medical novel in which the protagonist is a young neurologist who believes he has inherited the severe early onset dementia that has ravaged his family for generations and led his father to suicide. He has developed a promising but very controversial treatment for dementia (a Prion -- same biologic material that causes Mad Cow disease) and is ready to start human trials when mice in his lab start to die. Turns out his work is being sabotaged. In the process of unveiling the conspiracy against him he discovers sordid family secrets, faces his inner demons and falls in love. (strong romantic subplot).
Some of the imagery that may or may not be helpful:
Whenever he gets nervous, the hero fidgets with an old silver Zippo lighter with the engraving, Blest be the bind that ties, which he inherited as a family heirloom.
He rides a Ducati motorcycle.
His uncle (who turns out to be his biological father) is a Catholic priest.
The story takes place in the western suburbs of Chicago
I really don't have any concrete ideas for the cover, except that it should communicate that it is a medical suspense novel, that it deals with dementia and amnesia, and perhaps that it has a romantic element to it.
The title and author name should appear on the spine for the hard-cover version. I am very open to your artistic intuitions.
