I am a poet and a writer of novels based on true stories. My books are written in Spanish and translated to English. My target audience is women and young adults.
What's your vision?
Design "El Expreso del Sol" cover. The title of the book is written in Spanish as follows: El Expreso del Sol Subtitled: Basado en una historia verdadera (Titled translated to English is "The Sun Express"). Specifications: 6x9 book cover, spine and back cover. Needs to include eBook version also. I will provide the measure of the spine and the text to be included in the back cover. This is a book based on a true story. " El Expreso del sol" was the name of a very popular train line traversing Colombia, finishing its journey at the Atlantic coast. The scenery changes from region to region: mountains (Andes), valleys, and rivers. Chapters in the book are represented by train stops or stations. These stations represent a chapter or period in the life of the main characters: The grandmother, her daughter and her gran daughter. The history is narrated by the gran daughter, who is the main character and share with readers the secrets of her family and her struggle to overcome poverty and “misfortune”. The trip at the “Expreso del Sol” begins with a 6 year old girl and her unwed mother, moving from a simple, safe magical place in the country side to a poor urban center. The book tells the history of a family that is forced to abandon their land because of a civil war and how violence has affected women and the social problems generated by political conflicts. I use humor to describe some of the terrible things that happened. In others I present reality as it is, cruel and violent. I use a number of symbols throughout the book such as: • Station: I used this word instead of “Chapters”. This represents travel points, moving forward. • The sun: represent power, born-again, purification, harmony. The last station of the trip. • A large Guacamayo (bird) with many colors inside the train, representing loss of freedom. • A large mango tree represents the early years of childhood and a safe place. • Black birds representing a band of criminals that kill people not affiliated to their party. (They killed the grandfather). • Cat - o - nine tail wip to punish children. • The train. It’s the symbol that holds the story together. The train carries memories. • Cicada: represents the grandmother and her violent nature. The noise the cicada makes is very loud and violent. • Fading photographs of portraits. These become dust and disappear with the light of time (understanding, justice and forgiveness). • Hurricane: represents a decisive moment, lethal and of change. Emotional storm. • The metal door represents the opening through which the main character (The narrator: the daughter) enter the past and move to the future. THEMES: Personal growth, overcoming adversity, overcoming the past, overcoming poverty, overcoming violence, forgiveness, personal catharsis and coming of age.
