Entertainment & The Arts
Simon Cann is an author of crime/mystery thrillers. The target audience is readers of crime/mystery books. The readership is broad in terms of age and geography. Typically, readers are 30 to 60 (although there are many readers outside these boundaries) and there is an equal balance of men and women.
What's your vision?
The cover is for a book in the crime/mystery genre and is titled: “High Five”. The lead character is a female in her early 20s. The content of the book tends toward dark—but not excessively dark. A dark green/dark blue/gray cover (rather than black) hue may work well in this context (and for the books to follow in the series). To give an idea of the kind of book cover that the audience may be used to seeing, here are some examples: http://www.independent.co.uk/incoming/article9984278.ece/binary/original/the-girl-on-the-train.jpg http://simania.co.il/bookimages/covers75/753041.jpg http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51tBWAxWSZL._SX293_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg http://www.t3me.com/sites/default/files/Dark%20Places_0.PNG The cover must also work as a thumbnail (say 100px). At the small scale, the title and author name must be clear. There are hints/suggestions/preferences here. Please feel free to ignore everything I have said if your idea can blow me away. #Cover elements ##Front Cover text High Five a Montbretia Armstrong novella Simon Cann ##Spine [if there is space] Simon Cann High Five [CHP spine logo] ##Back Cover elements The back cover text (see below) [Coombe Hill Publishing logo] [bar code] ##Back cover text Montbretia was there; she saw what happened. The pickpocket went down, but that wasn’t enough to stop Curtis’s fists from flying. And when she pulled Curtis away, the other guy just laid on the side of the street. Inert. Barely breathing. Now the victim’s comrades—who have seen their friend grievously wounded and have lost their source of income—want to talk with Curtis. But the only person they can find is Montbretia, and they aren’t sure whether she’s telling the truth when she says she doesn’t know where Curtis has gone. Maybe she does know. Maybe she can contact Curtis. Maybe she’s the leverage the gang needs to force Curtis to meet them. Or maybe Curtis really has gone, and Montbretia will be a pretty little trinket for them to enjoy. Montbretia is on her own—caught in a tussle between Curtis and the gang—and she needs to take her life back. #Notes about the cover elements This book is a novella (about 100 or so pages), if the text and/or logo doesn’t fit on the spine, then the artist should use their initiative, and if the artist chooses, I am happy for there to be nothing on the spine. The barcode has been created at 300 dpi and should be reproduced at 100% size (or thereabouts). It must remain as black bars on a white background. The barcode should be located toward the bottom-right of the back cover. The two publisher logos can be sized as the artist sees fit, and equally the artist is free to adjust the colors of these logos to fit with the theme. The “wide” publisher logo should be located toward the bottom-left of the back cover.
A single piece “wraparound” cover is required—this will be used for the print version of the book. #Cover Size Page size: 203 mm x 127 mm Spine = 6.452 mm Outside edge bleed (beyond the page/spin size): 3mm The dimensions of the wraparound should therefore be: 267 mm x 209 mm Type Safety: 6mm Spine Type Safety: 1mm #File Format to deliver The final product is required in PDF format (PDF: PDF/X-1a:2001); 300 ppi; CMYK color space. The printer has a requirement that the CMYK total value should not exceed 240%. They recommend a rich black with CMYK values: 60% Cyan/40% Magenta/40% Yellow/and 100% Black. In addition, the front cover and back cover should be delivered as high resolution PNG files using the RGB color space. At the end of the project, the original working files (PSD/INDD/AI) and source artwork should be delivered for archiving.
