What's your vision?
I need an ebook cover for a biography of Tuvan throat singer Kongar-ool Ondar. Tuva is a small republic within the Russian Federation, on the border of Western Mongolia. The Tuvan people are traditionally a nomadic people, and their pastoral heritage is still a major part of the culture. The country is best known for an art form called 'throat singing,' where the singer produces multiple notes at once, and different styles of throat singing imitate different sounds heard in nature. Kongar-ool is one of the most recognizable faces of the art in the US, known especially for the film Genghis Blues. At home in Tuva, he was known for his teaching, and he mentored many of the best throat singers. The book is a collection of stories from his life. The author is a Tuvan ethnomusicologist who worked closely with the singer throughout his life. The book will initially be an ebook, but eventually will be produced in print. This cover is for the ebook. The word 'khoomei' is a Tuvan word for the art of throat singing. A 'khoomeiji' is someone who practices khoomei. I am including several pictures that might be good for the cover. One picture shows Kongar-ool on the sand dunes near his hometown. Another shows the singer with his horse. Horses are a big part of Tuvan nomad culture. The third picture is Kongar-ool surrounded by some of his youngest students. Many of his students have gone on to perform with Tuva's leading ensembles. The last is a picture of a Tuvan landscape. Excerpt from the preface: Kongar-ool Borisovich Ondar had many roles: a People’s Khoomeiji of Tuva, a Distinguished Artist of Russia, and an exceptional athlete. He served as a representative to the Second Great Khural of the Republic of Tuva, received a Medal of Valor, and was recognized in the book Distinguished Tuvans of the 20th Century. His contributions to Tuvan culture and art earned him the republic’s highest state prize. His work has been recognized internationally, receiving both the prestigious Grammy award and an Oscar nomination. He was a prominent member of the older generation of Tuvan khoomeiji. His life was tumultuous and controversial, full of remarkable stories. For over 20 years, I have had the privilege of judging various shows, competitions, and festivals around Tuva. I’ve witnessed a remarkable surge of musical talent, especially among the younger generations of khoomei singers. My position allowed me to see the development of Tuva’s larger music scene, as well as the growth of individual artists. I’ve worked with many of them in different settings: in their rehearsals, during our one-on-one fieldwork, and in collaborations with incredible international artists. My meetings with Kongar-ool always stood out because of his contagious smile and lighthearted, uplifting energy. He possessed a keen artistic sense for the audience, and the ability to move his listeners. Even his first concerts in the 1980’s were always followed by thunderous applause, and faces in the audience glowed with a childlike wonder. I was always astounded by his ability to be everywhere at once – he performed solo concerts, but could also be found accompanying khuresh wrestling contests. He was often the commentator for horse races, and he personally organized and conducted many charity marathons. Title: Singing My Life Subtitle: "The story of Kongar-ool Ondar, Legendary throat singer from Tuva" Author: Valentina Süzükei Translated by Aksai Bapa SIZE: 2820px x 4500px It's important that Kongar-ool's name is visible on the cover because it is recognizable among the followers of Tuvan throat singing.

Patiently listened to all of my feedback and promptly made adjustments. This project was a book cover for the second in a series, and I LOVE how it is a beautiful standalone design while still maintaining elements that relate it to the first. It is always a pleasure working with this designer, and I look forward to doing more projects with them in the future!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
